In the third episode of Park City First Timers, Makena heads to the Homestead Crater with Park City Yoga Adventures for a one-of-a-kind paddleboard yoga experience. The Homestead Crater is a 10,000-year-old geothermal spring, located within a beehive-shaped limestone rock, with its waters ranging from 90-96 degrees Fahrenheit.

Makena begins her adventure by meeting Julia, owner of Park City Yoga Adventures, to gear up and learn the basics of practicing yoga atop a paddleboard. From there, she gets her feet wet (literally), as Julia guides her through a paddleboard Vinyasa routine. Together, they flow through yoga poses like downward dog, warrior and runner’s lunge — all with the added challenge of balancing on a paddleboard.

And when things don’t go perfectly as planned, Makena takes advantage of the crater’s warm, mineral-rich water.

We embarked on a snowshoe/yoga adventure with owner Julia and her adorable dog, Sluff, yesterday and had a wonderful time! The price of your outing depends on the number in your group and was well worth what we spent for our three hours. We were supplied with packs containing water, hot tea, fruit, energy bar, and Julia's amazing granola balls (ingredient list on the website). We were outfitted with snowshoes and poles and were on our way. We went on trails I would never have known about on my own (a friend who has lived in Utah for over 30 years who joined us also did not know about the area we went). We enjoyed amazing views and Julia did stop often so we could catch our breath and hydrate but be aware that it IS a workout! After two hours on snowshoes (just shy of two miles round trip) we returned to the yoga studio for an hour of yoga. I am not a huge yoga fan but the stretching was just what we needed and Julia was an excellent instructor. I would definitely consider another outing with Park City Yoga Adventures!

We did a 4 star hike. It ended up 2.5 miles that was paced just for us. Yoga in a park just down from the start of the trail was so great. It's shaded and quiet. Me and my husband both got to do something that was challenging to each of us. I recommend this company if you are looking for a morning activity while in Park City. The communication between the owner, instructor, and myself was easy!

We took a snowshoeing trip and finished off with yoga. Julia was incredible--she helped four relative novices get into our shoes, monitored our enjoyment, and then finished us off with an incredible yoga experience. Thanks to PCYA! We will tell all our friends.

"Awesome"
Julia did an awesome job! She had everything we needed including yummy snacks and hot tea. The hike and the yoga were perfect for our group's needs. And the yoga was done in the most beautiful setting. She even brought music. I would definitely do one of their other classes if I'm in Park City again.

After practicing yoga for several years, a small group tried paddleboard yoga. It is difficult, but the highlight of our Park City trip. The water is warm, and the entire experience very relaxing. I was definitely sore afterward, as I was squeezing every muscle in my body trying (unsuccessfully) not to fall in.

I recently joined a group doing yoga in the Midway Crater with Park City Yoga Adventures. What a great experience! Julia took great care of us and really made the whole practice something special and memorable. I was challenged in my movements and really enjoyed the unique time we had in the water. Can't wait to do it again!

A friend and I recently enjoyed a morning of Paddleboarding Yoga with Park City Yoga Adventures. I went in having paddleboarded, although not very successfully, and very comfortable with yoga. I was leery about spending the whole time falling in, but this was a wonderful experience. We were quickly put at ease and, thanks to very calm and clear direction, we were soon doing poses on the paddleboard I would have dismissed as not possible, just an hour before. The crater made this experience very personal. I look forward to my next visit to Park City just so I can do another paddleboarding yoga session!

"Avid Yogi"
I am an avid yoga student of 8 years and always look forward to adding to my yoga experience by varying my routine and learning something from a new instructor. Julia provided just that with her paddle board yoga class. The setting is a natural warm spring fed crater where the solitude is perfect to clear the mind and focus on your inner self.  Attempting your standard practice is a challenge on a paddle board, especially if you've never done it. Julia is a great instructor as she gets you comfortable and familiar with the balance required on a paddle board. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to add to their yoga routine and work on balance. No Eagle pose required. Basic vinyasa is a good challenge. I ended up flipping my dog, into the warm welcoming 95 degree waters. You are guaranteed to enjoy this class.
